IS THE SANDTON HOODIE THE NEW SUPREME?

Are we lacking creativity or are we just lazy? As many of you know South African Don Design has "stolen” the Supreme design hoodies. I honestly don’t agree with this as it has been directly copied and pasted. Some may disagree and say it was inspired by Supreme but I believe there is a difference between being inspired and plagiarizing.

Although, Don and his close friend, AKA have both spoken of how the design was heavily influenced by their love for Supreme, they pawned off the media backlash for their lack of creativity as South Africa being behind in fashion trends.

I believe fashion’s most important principle is originality. Their design simply plagiarizes. There have been various fashion forward designs that have been influenced by other brands (example: Kanye West’s Yeezy Wave Runners and Balenciaga’s Triple S Sneaker) but they still incorporate their own take on the original idea. South African creatives seem to lack innovation and creativity, they look upon American fashion as inspiration and always conform to those standards, rather than standing out from the crowd.

Similarly to Don Design stealing Supreme’s logo, Zara has recently mimicked Balenciaga. They too show a lack of originality and simply, try to create a similar feel as the original product. That is what Don has attempted, the same feel but at a far cheaper price allowing people to feel luxurious but at an affordable rate.

What do you think? Leave a comment below about your perspective.

I’m done.
